In the EcoSpark protocols (as with most benthos monitoring protocols) we identify the benthos at the order level. This makes it very easy to identify the BMIs.
To help you and your students know your benthos we have several resources:
- Descriptive Identification Guides which students will need to identify their benthos
- Identification Keys in the form of a tree diagram (organized by physical characteristics) which students will need to identify their benthos
- Identification Quiz in PowerPoint form which will help you and your students confirm their benthos identification skills
