Step 2: Electricity Audit - Workshops and Beyond

Wattwize Logo

Once students learn where electricity comes from, it's time for an electricity audit! Your Conservation Coach will guide you through this process.

Your Conservation Coach will come to your school and work with your EcoTeam to facilitate a mini-audit. By the end of this 60-75 minute workshop students will have learned (through hands-on activities) how much electricity common school appliances use. They will, therefore, be ready to create a conservation plan concentrating on the biggest electricity hogs of the school. They will also have gained the skills needed to run a larger audit.

To prepare for this workshop, you will need to:

  • ensure there are ten electrical devices in the room for students to test (eg. TV, radio, DVD player, pencil sharpener, computers, projectors, etc.);
  • and print a complete set of electricity audit hand-outs for each student group

For this workshop EcoSpark will
:

  • bring wattmeters for the workshop;

  • and provide leadership, auditing experience, and knowledge.

WATTWIZE WILL BE WORKING WITH A LIMITED NUMBER OF ECOTEAMS IN 2011-12.
