Half-Day workshops
Changing Currents OR School Watch

Half-day workshops can accommodate up to 30 students per workshop, morning OR afternoon session.

Note: Adult community groups are charged at the same rate as private schools.

  • Duration: ~ 2-2.5 hrs total
    Session duration can be made flexible, for the School Watch program only.

    • Public Schools: $300

    • Private or independent schools: $350

    Grade 9-12: 1.5 to 2 hr workshop

Full-Day workshops
Changing currents and School Watch

Full-day workshops can accommodate up to 30 students per workshop for a morning AND afternoon session.

  • Duration: ~5-5.5hrs, whole day. Changing Currents (morning session) AND School Watch (afternoon session)

    • Public Schools: $600

    • Private or independent schools: $700

  • Duration: ~5-5.5hrs, whole day. Changing Currents (morning session) AND School Watch (afternoon session)


    Grade 6-8: 1 hr, per session
    Grade 9-12: 1.5 to 2 hr, per session

SHSM Certification Workshops

SHSM workshops can accommodate up to 30 students per workshop.

  • This in-person workshop is split into a half-day, in-field, data collection component and a half-day, data analysis and mapping classroom component.

    ICE training: Sector-Partnered Experience (SPE)

    In-Person: $750

    Duration: ~6hrs

    Topics: watershed management, stream assessment protocol, species identification (benthics, riparian plants), biodiversity management and protection, GIS, climate action etc.

  • This in-person workshop is split into a half-day, in-field, data collection component and a half-day, data analysis and mapping computer lab component.

    In-Person: $750

    Topics: ArcGIS Web mapping, ArcGIS Storymap creation, animal or plant management, species identification, biodiversity management and protection, climate action, etc.

full-year workshop

The Full-year workshop offers customized programs for multiple teachers and classes from one school.

    The full-year option includes:

    • 3 teacher training workshops held at your school or a nearby school

    • EcoSpark-led student sessions for each participating class

    • A school citizen science kit with equipment to keep

    • Customized School Watch Guides

    • Host of lesson planning and activity resources developed by EcoSpark

SUBSIDies

EcoSpark provides a limited number of program subsidies based on school needs, granted on a first-come, first-served basis. For each school, the maximum subsidy allowed is 8 half-day sessions of 30 students each, per school year (4 sessions per season). Please fill out the Subsidy Application Form to apply.

 

Program Policies

  • TDSB: EcoSpark is an approved Educational Programming Partner with the TDSB. Please refer to TDSB's Partnership Information Management System webpage, and search for 'EcoSpark Environmental Organization'.

    YRDSB: All EcoSpark programs are in compliance with YRDSB school board regulations. The Changing Current’s program has been modified to be in compliance with YRDSB’s water policy.

  • To book multiple workshops for a school, please contact EcoSpark directly to discuss options. Email changingcurrents@ecospark.ca or schoolwatch@ecospark.ca.

  • If unregistered students attend making the total class size greater than 30, then each additional student over the total of 30 will have a $20 charge. With 3 days advance notice of additional students, the standard $10/student fee will still apply.

    1. Life jackets are mandatory for any participant entering or within a 1m (3ft) distance from the body of water. EcoSpark will provide life jackets a d necessary safety equipment for participants.

    2. One hr. prior to the start of a session, EcoSpark staff members will assess overall site and water safety, including depth of safe water levels suitable to participant age group.

    3. An EcoSpark staff member will monitor students entering into any body of water.

  • There is an additional $1.72/km travel fee for serving schools outside a 75km radius of EcoSpark’s head office (601 Christie St, Toronto), with a minimum charge of $15.00.

 

CANCELLATION POLICY

  • Our programs run rain or shine! Please remind all participants to dress appropriately for the weather as all activities take place outside. Programs are rescheduled in the case of severe weather such as thunderstorms, heavy rain or high winds over 35 km per hour. If a program needs to be rescheduled, EcoSpark staff will contact you no later than 1 hour before the scheduled start of the program.
